Making Sense of the Census (Fording the Langs, at Present)

James Langford, mulatto (b. 1832, KY, s/o David & Gabrella, m. Nancy __), of Bryantsville, Garrard, Kentucky

LOCATION: Garrard County is a bluegrass region in central Kentucky. It was formed on December 17, 1796 from portions of Madison, Lincoln, and Mercer Counties. Lancaster, the seat of Garrard county, was founded in 1797 and named for Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The Lancaster Court House post office opened in 1801 (the name was later shortened). This area was settled because of its closeness to the Wilderness Road. Adjacent counties are Rockcastle (southeast), Jessamine, Madison, Lincoln, Boyle, and Mercer. –shb 3 Feb 2006
